Why Do You Not Forgive?

Jesus Christ teaches us to forgive all others—those who owe us, those who wronged us, those who failed us—if we want to be forgiven by our Heavenly Father. And He tells us that forgiveness must take place in our heart, so we won’t be turned over to the torturers. Yet many of us find it difficult to do what Jesus says. Living in an age of retribution, we are holding grudges and grievances and a need to make offenders pay for what they did to us. Why do we not forgive? Ignorance One reason is because we are ignorant of what forgiveness entails. Sometimes we are simply unaware that we...

I Now Forgive You!

I Now Forgive You!

We need to make peace in our heart with everyone who has ever hurt us and get that cleared up before God. We need to forgive our father and mother and all other family or friends for what they did or did not do for us in our life. And we must become aware of our need to forgive our self.  We cannot come to a place of peace as long as we are holding grudges against our self. No one is benefiting from this; to the contrary, we are hurting our families and friends. It is amazing to me how difficult it is for people to forgive themselves. They are more ready to forgive others than themselves....

Part 3: What Is Heart-Based Forgiveness?

In heart-based forgiveness, some type of spiritual event usually takes place in the heart of the wounded person that empowers them to release an offender from their debt. We will know when we have truly released someone from their trespass when we think of it and feel only a rush of joy and love. Blog #22 listed 14 aspects of forgiving from the heart. Here I’ll discuss the last seven aspects. 8. Agree to live with consequences of transgressor’s sin In forgiving offenders, we are agreeing to live with the consequences of their sins. This is why we need to do some groundwork: Do you know...

Part 2: What Is Heart-Based Forgiveness?

To forgive our offenders their debt, usually requires some type of groundwork must take place. Our negative emotions (resentment, anger, revenge) must become available to us. These destructive feelings do us great harm, actually holding us in bondage to the past. Negative emotions will continue to rob us of our God-given creative energy that enables us to live life more creatively and fully. Until we forgive our offenders, our energy will be tied up with them. Blog #22 listed 14 aspects of forgiving from the heart. Here I’ll discuss the next four aspects. 4. Anger is a normal reaction to...

Part 1: What Is Heart-Based forgiveness?

Forgiveness is key to experiencing more peace and joy in our lives. The parable of the unforgiving servant helps us to more fully understand the process of forgiveness (see Matt. 18:21-35). I suggest you read this parable in its entirety. Jesus tells about a king’s slave who was forgiven his substantial debt by the king, but refused to forgive another man who owed him a small amount of money. This angered the king, who handed the slave over to torturers. Jesus warns that a similar fate can befall anyone who refuses to forgive others from the heart. In heart-based forgiveness, something must...

A Vision of the Cross

When it comes to forgiveness, we need to understand the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Although everything Jesus did for us is factual, unless we have revelation of it in our heart, it will not be real to us. If we want to fully benefit from what happened on the cross, we must see it and know it in our heart as well as in our mind. A vision of the cross Here is a vivid account of a friend’s (Ralph Nault) encounter with the cross as he told it to me and I recorded it. I’m standing out in the middle of a violent storm; it’s pitch black out there. Lightning is flashing all over, wind...
