My Testimony, Using Faith

No More Migraines!

We had been  sightseeing along the southern California coast and had just stopped at a motel for the night. After being in the car much of the day, our three restless sons had quickly changed into their swim suits and were about to jump into the swimming pool.  “Mom, I don’t feel good; my head hurts,” my ten year old said.

Looking at his pale face, I immediately knew what his problem was: a migraine. He’d struggled with debilitating migraines from the time he was four—they were the kind that didn’t let up until he heaved his guts out. Afterwards, he’d fall asleep for hours.

Since our recent encounters with the Holy Spirit, we’d been learning how to apply our faith in the power of God in every area of our lives—fishing, weather, parking, shopping, and moving. Now it was time to pray for our son. My husband, Jerry, came over and laid his hands on our son’s head and began to pray with boldness for God’s power to heal him. I joined him in praying.

He didn’t say just one short prayer and quit. He persisted for some time, alternately using his spiritual authority to rebuke any spirit of infirmity that was involved and confessing the name of Jesus over our son. At times, he’d pray in the spirit and worship God in praise.

Nothing seemed to change; the symptoms persisted. Jerry continued to pray, applying his faith and trust in the promises of God. Strengthened in his faith, he announced that he would not accept this headache any longer: “We belong to God, and this thing has no place in our family.”

He labored in prayer for forty-five minutes. Slowly our son began to feel better. First, the nausea left without him emptying his motel swimming poolstomach. Incredible! This had never happened before. Then the pain lifted, along with the lethargy. The pallor disappeared and he returned to his swimming.

My husband and I rejoiced and praised God for His power. No more headache! Our son was free of it. More significantly, he never had another migraine during his growing up years.

Our spiritual journey had become pretty exciting. We were experiencing one blessing after another. As spiritual babies, we were learning to apply our faith in God and his power. Our confidence in the goodness of God was growing. God was reparenting us.

That your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God (I Corinthians 2:5).

Question: In who or what do you place your faith? People wounded very early in life often place what little trust they have on themselves and their ability to get God’s attention with much crying, rather than on God Himself.
