After beginning our spiritual journey, we were learning to go to Jesus in every situation—fishing, parking, shopping, moving, buy a house, painful moments, longings. God seemed to meet us every time. Here are four of our experiences with a living God.
The wild Ferris wheel ride
One day, my husband, Jerry, shared how he felt anxiety whenever the airplane he was flying in lurched in turbulent air. We took this anxiety to Jesus, asking Him why this was happening—especially because Jerry loved flying. Immediately a picture came to mind: He and his little brother were riding on a Ferris wheel. When his brother freaked out, Jerry frantically tried to flag the operator— as he was whirling around in the air.
We went to Jesus and asked Him to come into this traumatic memory and heal Jerry. As we prayed, Jerry saw Jesus on the Ferris wheel, sitting between he and his brother. His arms were wrapped around them, holding them tightly. On His face was a big smile. Jerry’s heart filled with peace. He was healed from this anxiety.
An injured back
Another time, Jerry came into the house, staggering in pain, and crumpled down on the floor. There he lay, writhing in pain. He’d injured his back while removing a rock from the garden. I called the children, and we began praying, in the name of Jesus, for God’s healing power to touch him. We continued for many minutes. Then suddenly, the pain stopped. Jerry stood up and began to walk around without any discomfort. He was healed!
Jesus pulls gray stuff out of the heart
One day, our third-grade son came home from school filled with fear, because he had to give a book report in front of the class the next day. “Do you know where the fear comes from?” I asked.
He thought for a moment and said, “Yes, when you made me go into the post office to buy stamps, and I didn’t have enough money, so I had to go back out to the car for more. I was so afraid, but you made me go back in with the money anyway.”
I remembered: I’d just picked him up from preschool and we stopped at the post office. Too lazy to go in, I sent him back in. I simply didn’t see his need. I apologized, then I prayed something like this: “Dear Jesus, you see my son when he was just a little boy and afraid. Please go back with him to that moment and heal him.”
As I finished, my son excitedly said, “Mom! Jesus came, and I saw him pull some gray stuff out of my heart.” The next day he gave his speech without fear.
Years later, I saw him stand up before hundreds of people and speak with great ease. I wonder if he could have done this if he had not been healed?
Satan is a liar; he works to fill us with lies and rob us from the gifts and talents the Lord has given us.
“Mom, I want an Irish Setter”
As he grew up, this son learned to bring many of his needs to God. For instance, his desire for a dog.
One day, he said, “Mom, I would like to have an Irish Setter for a dog.”
Wanting to ignore his request, I told him to go and tell the Lord about it.
A few hours later, I received a phone call from a woman in Lexington, MA. While we chatted, she asked if anyone we knew would like an Irish Setter. Her friends in Hull were looking for a home for theirs.
My son got his Irish Setter that day!
You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life (John 5:39-40)
Question: Do you remember to go to Jesus with everything?
As a matter of fact I almost do take everything to Jesus in prayer. It’s amazing how He’s answered my prayers. I love Him so much. I can really relate to how He’s shown up for you here & showed you where your fears or lies came from & then brought truth to bring healing. Jesus illumines our darkness if we’re willing to go there.
