The book, Prayers that Heal the Heart, describes a prayer strategy that can be used in groups as well as individuals. We choose one troubled area causing inner tension in our heart, then focus on the seven root causes that may be contributing to it: 1) Generational sins and curses; 2) Ungodly soul ties; 3) Negative expectations; 4) Inner vows; 5) Traumatic/negative pictures; 6) Word curses; 7) Demonic energies.
On my monthly Radio Horeb program, I am taking the listeners through these root causes and the prayers that can set them free from the junk in their hearts.
Jesus Christ came to set us free and heal our broken hearts: do you want Him to?
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to prisoners (Is 61:1).
God healed my heart of grief
The morning after our son died, I awoke hearing the Lord speaking to me: “You can say David died, but I want you to know My own never die. I came and took him; I always come and take My own. Don’t question what went wrong; don’t look to the right or left, and I will heal your heart and lead you through this time of grief.”
Seven clues indicating a heart problem
- Pressures within you that are being held in check, but they are not truly gone.
- Issues which come back continuously.
- Any habitual or stubborn sin pattern.
- Habitual weakness—mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical.
- Anything that is contrary to peace, hope, and love.
- Anything within that lines up with the activity of Satan.
- Addictions or out-of-control areas.
Three questions
1. What areas of my heart are under constant attack by the enemy? 2. What areas of my life disturb or remove my faith, hope, and love when I think about them? 3. Are there any situations I cannot face with a heart full of faith, hope, and love?
Paying attention to the words you speak can also help you identify what is going on in your heart.
- For the mouth speaks out that which fills the heart (Matt 12:34).
- The things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders (Matt 15:18-19).
Ask the Lord to search your heart
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any way of pain way in me… (Ps 139:23-24).
The most common heart issues are:
- Fear, doubt, unbelief
- Anger, hatred, rage, bitterness
- Rejection, abandonment, loneliness
- Financial lack, poverty, failure
- Sensuality, lust, pornography
- Depression, hopelessness, despair
- Grief, loss, sorrow
- Shame, guilt, condemnation
First step, make Jesus Christ Lord
It is vital that you make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life. This act is the first step to healing your heart. Ask yourself, “Who rules my life? Have I given it over to the Lord, the Creator of the universe, or do I rule it.”
Have you made a decision to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life?
Lord Jesus, I want to come closer to You. Please cause me to see more clearly who You are and what You have done for me. Today, I make a decision to follow You; I will do what You ask me to do. I choose to make You the Lord of my life. Amen
Ask “Lord, what heart issue do You want to heal?” and then pray:
Heavenly Father. I come to you now. Without you, I can do nothing. Your Word says that you come to heal the broken heart. I put my faith and trust in You and in Your Word. I am absolutely helpless to heal my heart. I surrender my heart to you, and place in it Your hands. I ask you to heal this issue in my heart…. I give you permission to heal my broken heart. I am expecting You to do what You promised. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
