Many years ago, I dreamed the following dream. I believe it was metaphorically depicting the nature of the journey that the Spirit of God was inviting me to.
“Jump,” the Voice behind me urges. Filled with apprehension, I look out the window. A sea of rooftops stretches into the distance.
I understand that this unseen Voice wants me to leap out the window and land on a nearby roof, in spite of my fears.
Can I do it? I wonder.
Gathering my courage, I jump, landing safely on the roof.
Again I hear the Voice say, “Go!” I gaze out the window at the far-off rooftops. Bracing myself, I leap out the window and land on another rooftop.
Then the gentle Voice speaks again, “Jump!” I go, leaping again and again, from rooftop to ever higher rooftops, at the prompting of the Voice behind me. Each time, the leaps grow bigger and more challenging. They require more courage and faith from me.
Finally the Voice directs me to leap once more. I look out the window, but this time I can’t see where I am to land. It feels impossible to me, but I determine to do it just the same.
I take a big leap and find myself high up in the air on a soft, billowy cloud.
Awakening, I know the dream is from God. The Voice is the Holy Spirit, the One sent by God to lead and guide me.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith … (Romans 1:17)
But My righteous one shall live by faith (Hebrews 10:38).
Reflection: What leaps of faith have you been invited to take in your life?
