When we are out with our friends, we often ask each other, “What is the Lord saying to you.” In our experience, most people really don’t know.
If I asked you this same question, how would you answer it? Will you share what you recently read in the Bible or what your pastor said? Or will you be able to share something the Lord is personally saying to you?
We can know His voice
Through faith God sends His Holy Spirit into our hearts, enabling us to call ‘Abba, Father’ (Rom. 8:14) and enjoy direct encounters with Him.
- My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27).
- Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me (Rev. 3:19).
- When He the spirit of truth, comes … He will disclose to you what is to come (John 16:13).
Note, when I talk about hearing God’s voice, I mean being aware in your spiritual senses—the eyes and ears of your heart—what God is communicating to you. Through pictures, visions, prophetic inspiration, spontaneous thoughts and images sent by God, we can sense what God is saying to us.
God speaks to me through a dream
Recently I dreamed one of the two children I was adopting into our family was trying to go back to her birth mother. When I awoke, I knew what the Lord was saying to me: Be careful that you do not go back to the old order of things like some of the believers in Galatia did and lose your freedom. After reading the allegory about Abraham’s two sons, one born by the bondwoman and the other by the free, notice what the Scripture tells the Galatians to do (Galatians 4:22-31).
Hearing God’s voice brings wholeness and transformation
German psychiatrist Walther Lechler found that if his patients do not have “a healthy dialogue with a loving Heavenly Father,” they we cannot get better. Knowing what God is saying to us is essential to our well-being, because it directly relates to the restoration of our souls. It is through hearing God’s voice we are transformed and made wholly alive in every dimension of our being.
Do you know the Father’s voice?
Are you hungry to hear His voice? Then ask the Father to open up your spiritual senses so you can know what He is saying to you. In the Old Covenant, many people knew what the Lord was saying to them, but you have something better: the New Covenant. It is your heritage as a born-again child of God that you can know your Father’s voice. Don’t settle for less!
